I saw something on Facebook today that really upset me. A friend of mine had joined a group called tageverycar.com. He sent me an invite to become a fan of the group too. You get paid to help this group gather information on every tag and car out there. I immediately did not like the sound of the group and went over to check it out. It is subsidiary of the group Data Network Affiliates. Their webpage claims that they are gathering all this information in order to help with Amber Alerts, Law Enforcement to recover stolen vehicles, and to locate missing people among a few other things. What BS!
I am adamantly against anyone data mining privacy information to sell to other companies. This is wrong (I know I said that but I really, really mean it!) and against the very integrity of our country in my opinion. The reasons they give are totally bogus! Law Enforcement has access to the information in the DMV database for Amber Alerts or Missing People. This is a company paying to get people to help them gather information that they themselves cannot get from the DMV and have no right to have. This is a way for these privacy thieves to circumvent the rules that are in place to stop them from getting just the information they are paying people to get FOR them! They are then selling our information at a huge profit to themselves and a huge privacy loss for us!!!
Another friend immediately asked me how we could stop it. I don’t know how to stop it. My husband says we probably can’t stop it because our vehicles are on the street and are not going to fall under “reasonable expectation of privacy”. But it’s not just vehicle information they want. They want every scrap of information they can get people to fork over about YOU!!! People are going to sell out their neighbors to get the money. If you can’t get people to roll over on their neighbor then pay them to do it and they will. This is a sad, sad commentary on what the almighty dollar can do.
I have to ask do you have children?? and what if one of your loved ones went missing?? wouldnt you want the most up to date information out there to recover them asap esp because children that are taken are usually killed by abductors within three hours of being taken..
What is so private about where the car is at any given time its not like your wife or husband could get this information if you were cheating. the majority of people have nothin to hide because the have done nothing wrong and the rest well that is up to them..
I definatly plan to be with DNA for a good long time.
I am sorry you dont see it the way I do. and I pray you never have to use the data collected.:}
thanks karen
Yes, I have children. And as a matter of fact yes one of my loved ones has gone missing. In 2000 and was never found. But people turning in other people’s privacy information actually has nothing to do with finding missing children or loved ones. If that was the case, this company would be able to get all the information they wanted from the DMV instead of asking neighbors to spy on each other for money.
Where my car is at a given time is no one’s business. I have nothing to hide but that’s not the point. I have a right to privacy! It is an unalienable right as an American. My father and my husband both spent over 20 years each in the military defending American’s rights to Freedom. Read the whole website. This missing children/missing love ones is a smokescreen to get the information. What they really intend to do with it is SELL it to big businesses.
I guess Benjamin Franklin said it best, “They who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety and will lose both.”
People dont seem to understand taht most ideas start out intended for good use. But often waht is intended for good very oftne gets used for bad. What Karen above here doesnt get is that this program is not going to help missing people of any aage. I read the website and saw the part about helping banks and rentsal car agenceis regain cars that have not been paid for. Saying it will help law enforcement is a complete farce. How does she think getting paid $35 to fill out a questionnaire on her neighbor is going to help a missing child. Does she expect her neighbor to steal her chidlren? Although most children are taken by people they know it is ludicrous to justice this data mining project based on the reasons they have given. Just an FYI I am against them tracking what i buy at the store with their stupid store discount cards too. Big brother is just way to involved inw atching every single thing we do these days. I agree Beth most people dont value their own privacy anymore and certainly dont repsect their neighbors. Thats really sad.
I’m in total agreement with you. Protect the little bit of privacy we have left! Even tho family and others might think they need to know my b’day, I post it off by a few days on FB because one of the things people need to steal your identity is your birth date.
Never say your SS# or any other truly private info over a mobile phone or RF phone in your house because radio frequencies can be monitored. I know it sounds paranoid, but we have to be vigilent.
